lyrics

One porcelain doll
Grew dust atop glass at the old antique mall
Some people looked, but nobody saw that
She really longed to be wild

Frail, fragile, and old
Not like the sturdier bodies that sold
She’d grown accustomed to being alone when
One day a smile caught her eye

And there he sat two shelves away in all his wooden glory
His painted eyes just had a way of telling a love story

There she was content
Not minding the folks as they came and they went
She was alive, she knew she was meant for
Loving her sweet soldier boy

The military air he had been carrying all the while
Was softened by her warm, inviting smile

One blizzardy day
Hands brought her down from the shelf where she lay
Packed her in paper and took her away from
What made her happiest now

She wished she could cry
She at least wanted a proper goodbye
But she was unwrapped when they brought her inside and
Couldn’t believe what she’d found

For there he sat across the way in all his wooden glory
His painted eyes still had a way of telling a love story

There she was content
Not minding the days as they came and they went
She was alive, she knew she was meant for
Loving her sweet soldier boy
